Chiapas is the mountainous southern state of Mexico bordering Guatemala and the Pacific Ocean.  It is often called "the place where Central America really begins."

There are 57 distinct indigenous languages within the state of Chiapas.  We have been working among the Spanish, Tojolabal, Tzotzil, Tzeltal, and Chol speakers.

Chiapas has the highest percentage of evangelical Christians of all the states in Mexico.  The two largest Protestant groups are Presbyterians and Pentecostals.

Mayan ruins are found throughout the state of Chiapas.  These "smaller" ruins are located 45 minutes outside of Comitán.

This is Teresa, she is a Tzeltal Indian.  She sells clay figures and other handcrafts on the streets of San Cristóbal to supplement her family's income.

In several areas of Chiapas, Christians are persecuted for their faith.  Many have been expelled from their homes/land and some have been killed.  San Cristóbal has a large population of re-settled Christians who have fled from persecution.
