Eight years ago we left our native land, the Philippines, where we worked in a Bible school for over 25 years training young people for Christian ministry. We thank God for the opportunity to have helped our own country develop mature Christians who are now out in the "field" proclaiming the good News of the Gospel to our own Filipino people. The work still goes on over there and we have moved on. In 1996 we came to Brasil - we immediate=
lystarted to learn the culture and the language of the people. Portuguese is not an easy language but God helped us to learn it fast and still learning it to be fluent.

In 1997 we arrived in Curitiba, Parana and joined the Brasilian project Casa de Jose as volunteers. Because Casa de Jose works directly with street children it was also our desire to meet with real street children, to meet them where they are and offer help to them at the open-center (halfway house) of Casa de Jose.

We are very happy with this kind of work and after a year in the US in 1999, we returned to the same place, doing the same thing with more street children to minister to because Casa de Jose now cooperates with the City in its desire to clean up the streets of Curitiba for they are considered a nuisance. The city has a
mini-bus with a crew of psychologists, volunteers, and the Military Police who round up the children in the streets and bring them to Casa de Jose on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Picture #3 - The mini-bus that picks up the street kids. It is called Resgate Social (Social Rescue) and is provided by
the city of Curitiba. The pretty little girl is Suelen, 8 years old, and calls Josue "meu pai" ("my father"). She is such a
sweet little girl but she stays out in the streets with her sister Simone (10 years old) and her brother Junior (12 years old).

Picture #5 - An important part of the open-center program is the Louvor (Praise Time) where we sing choruses. That's Carlos,
Center director, playing the guitar.

Picture #6 - After the Louvor is Devotional/Bible Lesson time. Ruth is teaching "True Happiness" according to the Sermon on
the Mount (Matthew 5:3-10).

Picture #7 - The boys and girls in their Football uniform. That's Fladimir in white shirt, a former streetboy for seven years,
converted and now living for the Lord and serving at Casa de Jose as office boy. The youngest kid with Josue is only 4 years old and he is often out in the streets with his family his mother, brothers and sisters. His name is Jonathan and with him is his
brother Junior, 10 years old.

Picture #8 - After a time at the Football court the ones brought by the police are taken to FAS center where they are served
a hot dinner, given a bath and clothes and a place to sleep. The
others who are regular at the open-center stay with us and here
they are enjoying a plate of hot noodles and chicken sauce. Ruth has also started making soup for them every Friday.

This should tell you a little bit of the activities that we are involved in at Casa de Jose. We have a lot more to tell you but we'll wait till the next set of pictures are ready for another update.
