The Pineville Lighthouse Mission has undergone a great transformation. The old office roof was torn off and new trusses put in place that span both the office and proposed kitchen. Groups have come from North Carolina and Illinois and elsewhere to help with laying tile in the day care center, finishing bathrooms, setting up the clothes closet, etc. One would think that so many renovations would mean the place had to close down, but not so. In the past six months 4,485 families received help. Currently, there seems to be a shortage of food supplies in many food banks and we are exerting extra effort to find the groceries needed to keep these food banks open. Marion Branch has made numerous trips with supplies to Kentucky and will shortly purchase supplies in Virginia to keep the ministry going. Asheville Branch with Bob, Lucy and Margaret has been very busy. Margaret has taken several loads of water, food and blankets to Squire, West Virginia. How she keeps going we'll never know. What a great soul! Bob and Lucy have been to Pike Co., KY, Pound, VA, Stopover, KY, Mud Creek, KY and Burning Springs. I would say Bob and Lucy have been burning rubber. One of their stops is with Miss Emma in Stopover, KY. Miss Emma's husband had a stroke, his second one, and he suffers from diabetes and is in a wheelchair. Nothing daunts Miss Emma. She keeps doing her work, caring for Don and caring for a grandchild. In spite of so many responsibilities she keeps a tight rein on the mission house and sees that the donations are not abused. Gary and Angie Broome have been up to West Virginia a number of times and managed a preaching mission and a Vacation Bible School. The task is not just to feed the hungry but to win them to Christ. The Pack family from Polk County have also been busy with their trips to Kentucky. All told, this has been a very busy season and we are grateful to the Lord for His enabling. Rutherford County Branch is a new branch of the KCMM, which held a food drive sponsored by the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church and the Fairfield Mountains Chapel. The food drive was completed in July 2002, and exceeded all expectations. Over 1,000 pounds of food was collected and 1,400 in cash. Buck Forester delivered the donations to the Lighthouse Mission. More projects are planned to include participation in the "Shoe Box" Christmas project. Yours, Uncle Buck Forester
