For the past 20 years, we have housed the students participating in our training projects in very spartan cabins in the woods. These have served us well, but can no longer be upgraded to meet current health and sanitation standards. We must build a new dormitory or face the possibility of no longer being able to offer training. We have the room! Equip is located on ten acres and we have an ideal site close to the classroom and dining room.
We have prepared! Over the past few years, we have been saving and have approximately half of what we need to complete this project!
We have been planning! We are considering a building as low-cost and energy-efficient as possible.
There are safety issues: After the tragic death of some Boy Scouts in a camp in eastern North Carolina a few years ago, the State of North Carolina now requires a sprinkler system in any student housing. This will add to the cost, but is a wise investment.
We need help! Ideally, we need to raise about $80,000 to complete this project. It sounds like a lot, but really a large target is reached by many small donations. Every gift will go 100% to the project, will be tax-deductible and will be gratefully received.
Update - The new dormitory has been completed and we started housing students in it last year. However, we are now in the process of completing the unfinished basement. There will be a new classroom, offices, and a student lounge located there. We need donations to help finish the dormitory basement.
